About the Event
Until professional help arrives you will likely be on your own. Having actionable skills and an understanding of what to do and when to do it can save your life, or that of a loved one. An emphasis is placed on bleeding control and wound management; however, this is not strictly a “how to treat gunshot wounds” class. The time to learn is now, before an incident happens.
Discussion and hands on application will cover a variety of topics including:
· Personal safety while providing care
· Situational awareness
· Combat mindset
· M.A.R.C.H assessments and treatments
· Care under fire concepts
· Prioritizing care
· Self-aid
· Wound ballistics
· Stages of shock
· How blood loss can affect the body
· Head injuries
· Fractures
· Basic anatomy and physiology of life-sustaining systems
· Contents and application of Individual med kit components
· Proper storage and employment of med kit
· Proper use, storage and application of tourniquets, chest seals, NPA and trauma dressings
· Basic and advanced airway management – treating and monitoring for pneumothorax, tension pneumothorax and sucking chest wounds
· Use of bandages, compression bandages, gauze, and hemostatic agents (Celox, combat gauze, etc.)
· Recognition and treatment of various injuries (gunshots, lacerations, burns, airway blockages, head injuries, orthopedic, environmental concerns)
· Moving and positioning victims with various injuries
· Evacuation considerations
· Plus, more
